St. George, Utah

West of the magnificent Zion National Park, St. George is a busy place, with box stores galore and excellent restaurants for tourists. It is a booming center where you can probably find whatever item or service you require before you go back to exploring the outdoor sights that surround it and its companion city, Hurricane.

Besides Zion, there is Red Cliffs National Conservation Area which was created to protect the habitat of the desert tortoise. It is a transition zone between The Colorado Plateau, Great Basin Desert and the Mojave Desert and the result is a unique environment for native plants.

Fortunately, the supply of campgrounds is enough to keep pace with the demand. You can stay at one of a couple of places in St. George and enjoy the city's attractions, such as museums, theater, golf and historical sites. And as you travel towards Zion NP through Hurricane, the selection becomes more varied. You can go primitive at a national park campground like Oak Grove, or a state park, such as Quail Creek or Sand Hollow, or stay at a resort style RV Park or a KOA.
