There are a number of campground and RV park choices in the Squamish area.

Its proximity to Whistler and Vancouver has bolstered the economy of Squamish via tourism since the closing of the pulp mill in 2006. Prior to that, a sawmill and logging operation, which also closed down, was the economic mainstay. Squamish was originally a farming community, until later when its lush forests provided the base for the forestry industry. There was also a busy period of prosperity associated with the coming of the CN railway.

The BC Museum of Mining, originally the Brittania Beach Mine, is open mid-March through mid-October and offers a tour through a mining tunnel, a chance to pan for gold and other hands-on activities. Garibaldi, one of BC's largest provincial parks, formed during the last ice age, has excellent backcountry spaces, mountain vistas and hiking or skiing, depending on the season. Squamish Days features family-oriented events, such as a parade , pancake breakfast and music, plus it draws competitors from all around the world for tree topping, hand bucking, tree felling, and axe-throwing, to name a few. The growth in tourism has resulted in a full year's round of activities, with sporting events, theatre, festivals, community fairs, music performances, and displays of local and national artists.
