Lower Post, British Columbia

For Lower Post, the nearest campgrounds and RV parks are to the north in Watson Lake, Yukon.

Near the junction of the Dease and Liard Rivers, Lower Post sits at historic mile 620 on the Alaska Highway (highway 97) and is settled by a variety of indigenous peoples, thanks to its early history as a trading route stop, fishing stop and meeting place. Mining has played a large part in the economic profile of the area, with the latest, Tulsequah Chief Mine, currently under construction. This remote area has four provincial parks, namely, Atlin, Stikine River, Mount Edziza and Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Provincial Parks. While highway 97 can take you to a variety of locations with more civilized pursuits, Lower Post has the elusive quality of northern isolation if that’s what you’re longing for.

  • proximity to four provincial parks
  • remote
  • boreal plains
