Treheme, Manitoba

There is a campground in Treheme.

Although a fire destroyed the early accounts of life in this town of about 700, a cluster of buildings has stood on the site since 1881. A major rural centre in southern Manitoba, the town was incorporated on the last day of 1948. Much of what has been preserved is commemorated in the town museum which has five buildings and numerous displays and artefacts. Treherne was named for its postmaster at the time of incorporation.

Tiger Hills Recreation Area, off the southern edge of Treherne, is the site for the annual fall marathon, Run for the Hills. The 10 km course passes through a rural area consisting of rolling hills, something different for those used to municipal marathons. Some runners raise funds for local charities, some run for the experience and, after five years, the event is growing in popularity which is no doubt a boon for the town.

  • Roadside attraction: Glass house built by Bob Cain
  • Boyne Valley Trails, a 2.5 km trail in town and beyond including a nature trail with two bridges
  • Pinkerton Lake Wildlife Refuge
  • Treherne Museum, consisting of five buildings, with displays and artefacts from the town's history
  • Treherne Military Monument
  • Delahunt Golf and Country Club, 9 hole-green
  • Bittersweet Trails, cross-country ski trails
