Safford, Arizona

Safford is a long city with mountain views and a big sky. There are big box stores and familiar restaurant chains. The hillsides are dotted with desert plants perhaps monotonously familiar to the residents, but fascinating to those who don't get to see a desert climate every day.

Roper Lake State Park is beautiful and is also a showplace for the desert vegetation. There is a hot spring here, and a day use island which includes a palm tree beach. All sites have a water tap and most have an electric hook-up. The walkways are lined with rocks and there is a hiking path up into the surrounding hills, the Mariah Mesa Trail. It is a lovely place to stay.

In addition, there are national forest campgrounds nearby too, named Twilight Campground, Arcadia and Upper Arcadia Campgrounds. There is a small BLM campground as well.

You can also stay at Safford RV Resort, a Good Sam park, Lexington Pines MHP and RV Park or Sunrise Village RV Park if you prefer to have complete hook-ups and stay in town.
