Brookings, OR

Brookings, Oregon is a small touristy center with many local shops and some chain outfits. A big attraction is the marina where a fish market and several kinds of seafood restaurants beckon with prospects of chowder and other seafood delights. From the fishing pier at the marina, there is a view across to gorgeous and glamourous homes.

The Azalea Gardens are a relaxing place to visit with many rhododendrons and azaleas to view, its sunlit lawns invite you to stay and picnic. Next door is a kids' playground called Kids' Town.

Nearby Harris State Park is a fantastic place to stay where you can wander on the beach and revel in the sea winds, bringing their fresh salty smells (as long as it's not low tide!). At the campground you can enjoy the somewhat reduced breezes and stay in a site that will probably be enclosed in the dense hedges which create a retreat in this busy and popular campground.

In addition to the state park, there are at least three lovely RV parks in close vicinity to Brookings. These are open year round and have beautiful gardens, thanks to the maritime climate.

A slightly hippie and laidback vibe pervades the town where recycling is practised and encouraged and there are small curb side food markets and stores. Ocean-derived foods and crafts are on sale here.
