Bandon By-the-Sea

While the drive to modernize has resulted in an array of newer stores and services by the highway, it is below highway grade where the real feel and appeal of the old town of Bandon-By-the-Sea can still be found. This is a very quaint place, with an inviting waterfront and marina and a constant cool marine breeze which bends all the trees in the same direction, creating some tortured and fascinating shapes and a low dense growth.

If you happen to be strolling or travelling through town, a novel sight greets your eye in the form of a colorful, fanciful and grimacing fish named Henry. Henry's story is told in the nearby sign. This apparition is made of recycled materials that have been extracted from the ocean. The point is to highlight the fact that disposing of items in the ocean is unacceptable.

Even though this is a small city, there are couple of nice RV parks here, one commercial and one sponsored by Oregon Parks & Recreation. As you travel north, the Oregon coast continues to unfold and there are many opportunities to camp and appreciate the beauties up close.
