Corvallis, Oregon

This small city of over 56,000 is very pleasant, with a wealth of birding places in the vicinity, if you are inclined to pursue the opportunity. The downtown core consists of almost entirely one-way streets and the roads are fairly narrow which might be a problem in a few years, if Corvallis continues to grow.

There are many restaurants--one of them, The Broken Yolk, is very popular and serves very good food in abundant quantities. It's in an old building which has been updated and they have wifi. This is kind of an analogy for the town; it might seem a little old but it keeps up with the trends. The refurbishing of old buildings in preference to building new structures and is a commendable trend in the environmental movement. You see that happening in Corvallis. In addition, one of the statistics of which Corvallis boasts is the number of green public buildings it has and for which it has obtained recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Natural areas and parks are prevalent and the wildness seems to be an important value. As far as camping goes, there is a KOA Kampground 5 miles east. Other campgrounds are not as close.
