Carlyle, SK

This town of about 1,400 people is somewhat unusual among the small towns of Saskatchewan, in that it has more modern homes than are often seen. Building permit information features prominently on the town webpage as well. It seems that there is activity in this sector, perhaps a sign of more recent prosperity. The downside of this new development is that the mature trees of some of the older towns are lacking.

Another interesting thing about Carlyle is the continued presence of the local flying club which started up in the 1940s as a result of the interest in flying engendered by WW II. The air strips used by the club have, in the 21st century, become a modern airport . The training of pilots is still an important aspect of the town's culture.

There is a composite high school and an elementary school here. These are indications of a younger and growing population.

A Lions park campground is in town and offers facilities for 11 camping units, as well as tenting. Both a baseball diamond and a golf course are handy.
